Here I am!
Counting the rising and ebbing,
72 years,
11 months,
and 1 day
into it.
5′ 11” tall.
(I used to be 6′ 1”)
232 pounds,
(some of it over weight)
Missing a few 1000 strands of hair
on top
where there used to be
100’s of mahogany waves.
127/82 blood pressure
at my check up last week,
69 beats per minute
resting heart rate.
An accumulated tide of numbers.
Now, suddenly, feels,
having reached full tide height,
13 feet high against the bulkhead,
of a full-moon-tide,
it’s started back out,
down the muck-wet-mud
to exposed roots of eel grass
on the rivered flats
and the sticking out rib cage
of a long sunken dinghy,
rotting,
buried in a tidal pool.
Counting the tides.
And the sea,
always the rolling sea.
