Had my yearly exam today.
Pleased to report the… eye … is doing fine.
(The left one is, anyway…)
The right one,
as it has been for almost 78 years
is blind
but for a fading upstage light
and the wiggling of dark and squiggly objects
dancing in front of that mysterious vagueness.
So, I’ll take it…. that report… that is.
And,
the vertigo,
caused by a sudden, perfect-storm-combination
of partial blindness,
worsening hearing
and increasing older-ly-ing-ness
is pretty well gone for now!
(Thank-you very much

But the right leg,
after a recent, spectacular
two and a half front gainer with a twist, shaken and stirred, over my desk chair
after tripping on the plastic rug beneath its wheels,
thereby resulting in, quote,
“…the mother of all ham-string-tendon-and-muscle
sprains, rips and pops,”
(thus spoke the radiological wiz-kid at Novant Health, Wilmington, NC….
(zip code unknown)
STILL HURTS!!!
And walking is more agonizing than the painful chore
it was after my left-knee-replacment four years ago.
So my post-cateract surgery left eye has it!
The First Prize for
the most-wrecked but best-healed
anatomical part of my body!
(There are other…”parts”… but this is a family show)
So, I accept my unsought prize with all humility.
and the promise to keep an eye out for any
serrupticious throw rug left
mined around the house.
For I’ve come to accept that
fate and an inescapable, built-in-obselesence
will have their way,
come what may.
