Is His eye on the cockroach as well as the sparrow?

Does the hooded cobra get equal time in His eye

with both bug and bird?

If you believe He watches you

because His eye is on the sparrow, too,

what if His eye is on the mosquito as well?

What does that say about you…. and hell?

Are snake-hiss, bird-song and bug-buzz

all beautiful music to His ear?

Are a slither across the sand

or a scurry in a dirty kitchen

or the panicked flight at the sight of the hawk

all “Good” in God’s eyes?

Does your soul contort when you sing the old hymn?

Doesn’t it give you the shivers within

to know you must be able

to sit at His over-crowded table

merely for forgiveness of sin?
