1266 A TEACHER, TAUGHT 05-31-25

A lesson a young, freshman girl

taught me many years ago:

She’d written on a writing prompt I’d devised,

“SOMETHING I TOOK FOR GRANTED, WASN’T.”

Her final sentence in her cute little story was,

“So I learned to take nothing for

GRANITE!”

(caps hers.)

I, pedantically, I realize now,

pointed out,

“Susan, that’s

“…for granted.”

She smiled at me,

(wicked little dear)

and said,

“Why, Sir!

They’re synonyms!”
