Myths became legends: Atlas shrugs and Davy Crockett patched up the crack…

Legends became history: Troy exists. Cortez and De Soto were wrong.

History, to give itself a reason to be, became Theology: The old “God shaped void” thing.

Theology, to keep from running amok, invented Ecclesiology: Mecca, Jerusalem, Vatican City.

To keep the church from running amok, Governments arose: The Magna Carta, The Little Red Book.

To keep governments from running amok, we got politics: The Constitution, Project 25.

To keep politics from running amok: The Reign of Terror, Bergen-Belsen,

we are here.
