The Conservative,
longingly,
looks back to a time that was,
in his mind,
pristine, imaculate,
but never existed.
and works to bring it into the present.
The Liberal,
ever hopeful
looks forward to a time,
pristine, immaculate,
that will never be
and works to attain it.
Both are optimists, idealists,
motivated by a deep belief in the basic
goodness of human kind.
Both are fools.
