1119 BY THE RIVER 05-24-23 (another song!)

( I wish I could write music, but the melody is stuck in my head. Just think of a waltz.)

I will always remember

those nights by the river

when we walked hand in hand

first in love.

With the sound of your laughter,

the joy in your smile

and the taste of honey-sweetness

in your kiss.

There were times in our life

when we couldn’t see the morning,

when we didn’t know

which way to turn.

But we held tight our hands,

closed our eyes and stepped forward

and we found us

where we were meant to be.

I knew then we would always

be there by the river,

no matter how far away we’d go.

So my fear for the future

doesn’t hold me any more,

‘long as you are beside me, my dear.

Our love’s become our reason

to walk on through the seasons,

it’s the child we nurture every day.

We hold it close – it’s our baby,

keep it safe and secure.

It grows –

so long as we do,

that’s sure…

So here we are, years later,

holding hands by the river,

still together

as the water

flows to the sea…

I will always remember

those nights by the river

when we walked hand and hand,

first in love.
