A suddenly grown noisy world.
The wind a steady humming.
The chimes a constant song.
That construction crew, two streets down:
Power saws, nail guns, 2X4’s banging together,
Latin music from an ancient Boom-Box.
A single engine Cessna over head, low.
The fan on our porch.
Bird songs in the wood-lot.
What a cacophony!
Nancy’s soft tones for counterpoint
to all this jumble.
My first few hours with new hearing aids
after, “A procipitious drop in hearing acuity”.
Well,
It’s fine to hear Nancy’s voice, anyway.
Not so sure about the rest of it…
Perhaps being deaf
to a world-too-much-with-us
is not the worst thing I could be.
