Answering a new friend request,
after reading her page,
after she typed, “Hello”,
How are you doing today?’
I replied,”Hello”.
And she replied, “Hello”.
and I said,
“Phew!
I’m glad we got that
over with!”
and she sent me her pretty picture
and said, “Send me your picture.”

and it dawned on me.

So I typed,

“Look,
I am 72 years old.
Happily married for more years
than you are alive.
I use FB for the fun
of keeping up with former students
and someone as young and pretty as you
SURELY
is not interested in an old guy like me!
I read of your divorce.
Good luck in your search,
but I have been divorced
twice in my lifetime
and I know it is never easy
but it gets easier
so be patient.
Take your time.
Learn to be happy –
alone.
Then You will be happier
when you find your right other.
Bye-bye.”

And she typed, “Okay.”
And I typed, “Okay. God Bless.”
And she typed, “Okay”.

I don’t think I’ve ever been
unfriended.
But I didn’t take it
personally.
