I placed an old folding chair
between the tree line in my back yard
and the bird feeders.
I sit there, waiting.
The birds panicked off when I arrived,
but, now, they steal their way back,
a few feather flutters at a time
till finally there’s a whole
armada on maneuvers,
flying from feeder to feeder,
circling around my head.
I should put on my old straw hat
so no bird-poop
splats on my bald pate.
Maybe a chick-a-dee will land on me!
Maybe if I drop a handful of sunflower seeds
on my lap and leave them,
a cardinal will land right there,
snatch a seed
and flit off to that branch,
right over there,
peck open the seed and eat the meat
right in front of me!
Wow!
That could happen,
Ya know?
Anything’s possible
if I can contain myself,
make myself sit still
for a little while longer!
Just sit still!
Then,
Mother will
reveal Her miracles.
