Cotton fish swimming
in a sea-blue
summer sky.
The old Jew,
black hat,
gray beard,
white shirt,
black suspenders
tugging up
black trousers,
strolls with his
black dressed,
violet shawled,
red kerchiefed
old wife,
hand in hand,
looking up,
they smile to see
cotton fish swimming
in a sea-blue
summer sky.
But this poem
does not depend
on black clad Jews.
it could have been
the Iman,
black bearded
and his wife
cloaked in her purple hijab
or the Amish couple,
straw hatted and bonneted
bouncing in their buggy.
Why!
it could be
You!
All of us
can see
cotton fish swimming
in a
sea-blue
summer sky,
if we only
wish
to see.
