589 Silver Spoon 4-26-16 (go to 580 for search words)

My grand niece is
nicknamed “GG”.
I hold GG’s
great, great, grandmothers spoon,
tarnished, filagreed, engraved with
“E. L. Atlanta”
for Elizabeth Louise Atlanta Matisen,
my grand mother who
I never met, but have seen
in old sepia photos,
holding her baby daughter, Genevieve,
my mother,
both gone now,
but for my sister Brenda’s middle name,
Louise,
and GG’s given name,
Genevieve.
A six generation
spoonful of history,
spanning more than a century.
A family moves through time
on a sterling silver spoon.
All the living,
all the, hopes, calamities, joys,
bowled daintily
in a family heirloom.
One of the few,
for you,
GG.
