277 Why that one?

Why has that single oak tree
been granted leafy longevity?
Why, when all the other trees around
have dropped their leaves to cover the ground,
has that solitary sentinal maintained its
Autumnal glory?
I think the reasons are easy to see:
Stubbornness in the face of seasonal adversity
and,
while the rest have bared their branches and run,
that oak has determined to tan in the sun.
