203 On burials

A strange, archaic custom
in our culture:
dig a hole;
put a body in a box;
put a box in a hole;
cover a hole with dirt:
act as though the body is
Him
or
Her
in a box,
in a hole
under dirt.

NOT TRUE.

He
or
She

are long gone,
or hovering close,
or starting over as some new born
to learn new thoughts
or conquer old ills.

The spirt is not absorbed in soil,
rather freed to loose its light
on the universe.

Burial is not surrender to final resting place
or home coming to wait some future release.
Rather “Bon Voyage!” as soul ships out
to sail eternal seas.
