105 Impact

Nature knocked me out today
with a quick jab
and a long roundhouse punch
I couldn’t duck.

Sitting, this mindless summer morning,
staring out this window,
when a rabbit stretched across the yard,
past cosmos, sunflowers, glads…
then, five, maybe ten seconds later,
a fox,
orange, browns, black nose, devil ears
and menace,
tip toed from the woods,
across the yard, back into the spot,
exactly where the rabbit refuged.

I was exhausted, panting by the time
he disappeared.

Then,
later this evening, emerging from,
of all synthetic worlds,
the mall!
I smashed into a sunset
so spectaclar, I cried.
“WHOA!!!”

Hills rolling up the Hudson,
purple, blue, green,
Sky a grey haze,
Sun a glowing, blazing globe
tacked to heaven,
sliding into the valleys,
till it was a slivered campfire
on the crest, then
extinguished in a puff of cloud.

Then I was unconscious
and remember nothing since.
