48 – FOR BECKY TO SING

no promises, just kisses,
more good-byes without hellos…
That’s the way he wants his
lady lovin…
No questions, just embraces
no locks, just open doors…
but I like myself too much
for that arrangement…
So the kisses will stop coming
’till the promises are mine
Promises of love and a tomorrow.

He can take that sleeping bag
he stashed so safe behind my couch!
I’ll find a man who will hold me
past the morning.
He can tell me I demand too much
but there’s this feeling in my mind
I’ve heard that line just
once or twice too often.

He has the right to walk away
But I know I have the right to say,
“If he wants me,
he’ll just have to stick around.”

So,
there’ll be no
kisses without a promise,
no doors without a lock.
That’s the way I want my
man to love me.
No good-byes without the promise
that there will soon be a hello
no hugging without the right
to ask a question.

I want my lovin man to know
that I will always be here
and I deserve to know
he’ll be here too.
